Work Related Mental Health Issues

As we spend time in our careers, sometimes we come to question our lives. The degree you received may have been put to good use, but now the career hasn’t turned out the way you imagined. Maybe here is an increased pressure to perform, or maybe it was your dream job but now you are just losing interest. Maybe it’s the people, maybe you are starting to have strained relationships with coworkers. You’ve had a good career your whole life, now that you’re about ten years from retirement, you’re thinking that you might want to do something different? Such questioning itself could be bringing about self-doubt, frustration, irritations, in ability to concentrate, as well as conflict in your partnership, marriage or family.

As you have gotten older, are you struggling with ageism in the workplace? Sometimes that can cross-transfer into a sort of self-imposed ageism that we are having difficulty coming to terms with, that in turn is keeping us from shining, exhibiting our skills and trying to get ahead. Maybe you want to take your skills and create a new niche for your work but are lacking the self-confidence or motivation. Unidentified mental traps could be affecting you and you can’t figure out what it is; for example, you can’t pay attention to things for very long, lose interest or cannot complete projects you would otherwise enjoy. In some cases, people will start to do odd things that not only people who know then begin to question, but the person themselves as well!

Another middle to late life related issue is retirement. Life didn’t go the way you thought. Unexpected events arose that derailed your plans. Maybe you just didn’t think about it until now you are thinking “I’m too late”.

With all of these work and career crossroads there is always some element of finality, notions of “either/or” loss, like the decision you must make feel likes like eternal happiness and bliss, or mortal struggle and pain are at stake.

Sometimes simply realizing what the problem is enough to pull oneself out of a funk, but often the realization makes the problem worse, somehow engrains it even more deeply into our souls and minds, and it becomes difficult to find a way forward.

With established and creative mental health techniques I can help you pull yourself out of the ditch of self-doubt or come down from the flight of distracting inattention.
